Photography

In August 2000, shortly before I went on holiday to San Francisco, I took it into my head to buy a camera for a few holiday snaps. After all, my last two cameras were stolen on holiday -- one by a clever chap in Rome bus station, the other by four muggers in a Madrid subway -- so I saw no reason not to try and make it three.

With less than a dozen rolls of film under my belt in my entire life, I made the mistake of knowing a few camera junkies and letting them know that I wanted a pocket camera, but found the APS pictures I'd seen a turn-off. Faster than the blink of an eye, I ended up with a Contax TVS III. This piece of titanium male jewelry is a shirt pocket sized 35mm camera with a Carl Zeiss 30-60mm zoom lens and auto-everything.

After this bout of madness I had to start practicing, and reading up on photography, and buying proper film, and...

Fortunately I found that I really quite like this photography thing, even if I did manage to throw my first and only decent picture out with the rubbish whilst packing for my trip. So a month or two later I had a used Contax SLR system. I now have four lenses, a light table, about six tripods of varying sizes, a monopod, and a film-scanner, and I'm buying film in packs of ten. The stack of photos has started to grow...

One day I'll auto-generate this page from a database, but I need to work out what it should do first. So for the moment I'm breaking things up into categories. OK, so there are just a few right now. Patience, patience, there's film in the camera.
