Cognos heard the annuciator go off and was about to grab the doc and
drag her down to surgery when she barged past him and ran full speed
down to where the kid was, with him on her heels, when suddenly hell
incarnate came calling.

Begin: "Silicon Surprise"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Prostrate on the clinic's floor, Silicon groaned as he struggled to regain
control of his battered body. He could faintly hear some noise down the
halls of the clinic, and then there was silence. As he sat up, he winced
at the shooting pain from his arm. He was just shaking off the pain when
X-win, Rhom, and Chips came through the door.

"'bout bloody time you boys got here!" said Silicon.

"We had to make sure the dude didn't grease you if'n we got
too close," said X-win as he offered Silicon a hand up while
	 Rhom and Chips kept look-out.

Grasping the proffered hand, Silicon lifted himself up, wincing at the pain
from his injured arm. Holding the pain-ridden limb, he said

"Let's get out of here. I've got a score to settle with that
dude, and we've got some planning to."

Rhom and X-win exchanged knowing looks. It was time to bring out the
heavies.

In a dark room of a non-descript abandonded warehouse, Silicon addressed
his assembled group of street thugs, which had been augmented by a number
gang members who hadn't been present during the chance encounter earlier
that day. As he spoke to them and outlined his plan, Rhom asked

"And what makes you think this will work with a dude that made
such easy work of you's this morn'n?"

Silicon looked at Rhom with hooded eyes. Rhom looked back, a hint
of defiance in his eyes.

"Are you questioning me?" asked Silicon, his every word ice.

A briefest of pauses followed, then

"No," said Rhom. "Just askin' a question, is all."

Silicon regarded Rhom for a bit, weighing the possibilities.

"It will work, because we've got the toughest gang in town, and
with my brains behind it, it can't fail," said Silicon.

This was followed by a chorus of "right-on"s, high-fives, and other sounds
of affirmation from the rest of the gang.

"Now, anybody else got any 'questions'?" asked Silicon as he
	scanned the gang.

When no answer came, he fixed his gaze steadily on Rhom.

	"Good. Then let's do it."

Rhom's gaze at Silicon was steady and sure.

Dr. Carnes examined the readout next to the patient and shook her head.
While a psychological reaction to the implant seemed indicated, the
intense spasms looked more like a neuro-chemical reaction. Given the
youth of the patient and the lack of preperation for the implant, any
treatment she used would be uncharted territory, and extremely risky.

Pausing briefly to consider her options, Dr. Carnes made her choice and
began execution.

<<I WANT MY DADDY!>> screamed Kristen in terror as she tried
vainly to deal with the assault on her very being she was
	experiencing.

Outside the rear door to the clinic, Sens slipped a fiber-optic stealth-
scope through a crack in the doorframe and looked around. In the hallway
he saw the doc and man rushing to a nearby room. When the doc disappeared,
the man suddenly grasped his head and roared in pain and agony, he retracted
the scope.

"Looks like our man's got a problem," said Sens.

"Good," said Silicon. "Then we'll make short work of this
and make a good night's haul of this place to boot."

Turning to his assembled gang members,

"X-win, Rham, Chips -- get ready to do the door. Notify Rhom
and the others to bust in on my signal."

The orders issued and acknowledged, Silicon waited for confirmation, then
said to his assembled squad.

	"Do it -- now!"
