My mind swims... my heart beats... my limbs twist... I see only the
dazzling darkness that pierces my eyes. My aural senses go into
overdrive, hammering, crushing, breaking under the strain. The pain,
I can feel the pain so clearly now, so pure and concentrated inside
of me. It rips apart the very fabric of my being. I can't take any
more. White, white light. So bright... so very bright. Sleep my
child, lay to rest your weary head. Distorted images that mix into
the light, fading from view, fading into view, never still, always
moving. Horrendous images, images of such magnitude and horror they
freeze my every nerve. They rain in my brain... they play with my
pain. They come again.

Subject: Cuban Update
Date: 10-Oct-98

Josh,

As you are no doubt aware the current events in Cuba have put the
entire country in political overdrive and the military are already
mobilising their ground troups in response. Recent reports indicate
it could have been the work of the faction group '8:44 Rv' but
personally I think it a little out of their usual scaremongering
tactics. Anyway the hottest in from our field rep is enclosed, send
me some feedback Josh, everyone is so in the dark here it's
frightening.

Dan

INC. FDB02:
Cuban Incident Hits New Heights direct from the News Central
Broadcasting Corp. Marty Kayne reports back live:

Those of you viewing this via the World Wide Web with Live Video
Footage enabled will be able to witness with me the tragic events
that took place here only last night. In this very same high street
as I am stood right now the Cuban military police engaged in armed
combat with rampaging citizens hell bent on the destruction and
murder of the current Cuban general. Police armed only with sonic
disruptors and shockwave bullets held back the growing force long
enough before the military gunships imobalised them all with a new
laser weapon that rendered the majority of offenders blind within
seconds. This shocking new technology is known to have existed for
over a year now but this is the first time it was used upon a public
gathering. The death toll is as yet unknown, but as night falls once
more on this troubled land it is sure to rise. This is Marty Kayne
for NCBC News, live on the hour, every hour from across the globe.

[DIABLO] You ask me its the bloody feds again, total set up from
start to finish.
[UNDERHAND] Yeah but that _still_ don't explain the tekkno they used,
I mean someone had to like supply that shit in the first place, it
ain't no Cuban dezign stuff.
[HARLEYCHROME] Hi guys, news rat reports multiple deaths, result of
trigger happy police and chaos from the eyebon-1 laser, but what you
think? 8:44Rv stuff? Doesn't seem quite their arena.
[FINGER] Harl bud, good to see ya around. Intelstat is down, the
juice just ain't there my man.
[DIABLO] Yeah this is underground shit for sure Harl, and for what
it's worth I doubt if 8:44Rv would know how to monkey-bag it like
that.
[MASQUE] I dunno, last I heard 8:44Rv has signed up the entire
ex-Genetix Crew possee, so I guess that would put a lota hardware and
knowledge in their hands.
[UNDERHAND] Hell that would explain the tekkno, but still I just
don't buy it.
[DIABLO] Christ, the Genetix guys knew their shit for sure, they
could pull off this thing easy like - but politics, even for Genetix?
[HARLEYCHROME] I agree, Genetix are renowned for their technical
prowess but this was too methodical, too complete. It had the
precision timing of a swat team, not a bunch of techno-fiends out for
a little cyberspace joy ride.
[UNDERHAND] I wouldn't put it past them though Harl, hell you saw the
chaos they caused in the Bay area just because they were bored.
[HARLEYCHROME] Yes I remember that incident well, but their style, it
just doesn't fit.
[MASQUE] How many ppl did they ice coz of their Acid-Vending jinx in
the Bay?
[UNDERHAND] I think the total hit 'bout 8 or sommat
[MASQUE] Jeezus, they are sick guys 4 sure
[HARLEYCHROME] Well we all have to progress, maybe this was just
another step for them? But if Genetix _is_ behind this Cuban affair
who is the best shot for stopping their ass?
[UNDERHAND] I'd love to try, I'd kick their butt from here to fucking
Venus and back ;-)
[MASQUE] Couldn't say Harl, ya know I'd help if I could but most the
elite went far under after the last Renno Op swoop this summer,
caught a lot of unexpecteded's and scared off the rest.
[FINGER] You could do worse than try and contact DataFlux, I doubt if
he'd help but its better that nothing.
[HARLEYCHROME] Cheers guys, I owe you one. Jack out.
[MASQUE] Catch them Harl, does us all a favour.
[UNDERHAND] Amen to that

Alias: dataflux
Real name: unknown
Status: alive
DataFlux enjoyed a brief spell of limelight in the mid 1990's when he
succcessfully cracked the NASA control centre's main network and
caused a small scale panic. It made him one of the elite but when
his next hack, a corporate managers service-droid, went violently
wrong resulting in the death of an 8 year old girl, DataFlux went
underground and wasn't heard of since. There are a few reports from
him to be found in Phrack Issues 62 and 63 but nothing much since
then.
