Below is a ficticious log of a mud that I've been longing to see. I haven't
seen anything like it yet, so I and other programmers have been working on
one. After working on it for six months, we are looking for a site where we
can finish it (about 1 to 2 more months) and open it. The wizards make up a
major portion of the founding wizards of Godnet, and we are confident that
Monohaze will blow away any futuristic mud currently on the net... if we get a
site. (HINT HINT) Anyone who knows anyone who might be willing to play,
program for, or supply a site for a project like this can mail
jsmart@iastate.edu for more info. Followups are directed to rec.games.mud.misc

Passenger Room
The shuttle is packed full of people who, like you, are looking for a new home
and life on Maankhid. Most are obviously poor, probably selling everything
they had for the costly amount of a ticket. There is a closed hatch on the
aft side of the shuttle.
Kyn (sitting) and you (sitting) are here.
> inventory
You are carrying:
A small knife An identification card
A flyer titled "Maankhid: New Colony for a New Way of Life"
> look flyer
This is a flyer depicting the benefits, excitment, and job opportunities on
Maankhid.

You hear the hissing sound of the passenger hatch opening. Over a
loudspeaker, a voice blares: "Thankyou for flying with us. We hope you have
had a pleasant trip. Landing proceedures are finished without incident and
the outer door has opened. Please exit in an orderly fashion, and have a
wonderful time on Maankhid."
> out
You stand up.
You exit the shuttlecraft.
Monohaze Starport Landing Pad (west)
Wind gusts across the textured plasteel landing pad that is approximately 100
meters square. Blinking lights surround it, giving the pad an errie pulse.
Surrounding all four sides of the pad is single building. To the west, among
the hangar doors that line all four sides, is the only man-sized door that you
can see on the whole building.
You see Shuttle RX4 here.
Kyn steps out of shuttle RX4.
A forklift approaches from the south.
> look forklift
A standard forklift with an enclosed cabin. It is currently carrying a large
crate with a biohazard label on it.
The forklift loads the large create with a biohazard label on it into Shuttle
RX4.
Kyn enters the building through the man-sized door.
> west
You walk west, into the building.
Monohaze Starport (west lobby)
There are only a few chairs here. In a corner is a vandalized and empty news
stand. To the east is a door leading outside the the landing pad. An open
elevator door is on the south wall. There is a door on the west with a
card-key lock.
Kyn, Oswald (guarding elevator), Casey (guarding east), and Rahn is here.
Casey looks you over.
Casey says "Hey, looks like another one."
Rahn smiles.
> go elevator
Oswald blocks your way.
Oswald wields his katana.
Oswald says "Try that again, freshie!" to you.
Rahn says, "Hey, we're not here to fight, we're here to recruit."
Rahn smiles.
Kyn says, "If you just want to recruit us, why are you guarding the doors?"
Rahn smiles wider.
Oswald says, "In case you say no."
Rahn says, "Actually, we have an attractive offer. Do either of you have jobs
lined up yet?"
> look Rahn
Rahn looks like a space marine that was kicked out for psychological reasons.
His eyeteeh are obviously cyberware implants, since they are the only teeth
that aren't yellowish-brown. He does not appear to be injured.
Carrying:
a heavy rifle (wielded) a mission chip
a steel bracelet a sonic knife
a steel bracelet a canvas pouch
an identification card a remote control
Rahn looks you over.
Rahn says, "I don't know about what world you came from, but on Monohaze: you
starve, you die. End of story. And that pamphlet you've got is a load of
shit. They only jobs that are here are either illegal or just barely enough
to feed yourself on. There aren't enough of either kind and new fobs like you
keep coming all the time. I am willing to feed you and give you a place to
stay, and all you've gotta do is to go to hangar NB, get into the shuttle,
insert this mission chip into the slot, and enjoy the ride."
Rahn drops a mission chip.
Kyn looks you over.
Kyn sighs.
Kyn takes a mission chip.
Rahn gives a bracelet to you.
Rahn gives a bracelet to Kyn.
Rahn says, "Wear bracelet"
> look bracelet
A fairly ugly arm bracelet. It is a two inch cube of fairly light plastic
mounted on a strip of flexible canvas. It seems designed to be locked on to
an arm, though you can't see any keyholes.
Kyn fastens a bracelet onto his arm.
> wear bracelet
You put the bracelet on. You feel a sharp sting from the box resembling a
brief electrical shock.
Rahn smiles warmly.
Rahn says, "Ok... hangar NB and no funny business. You've got 40 minutes
before your arm bracelets will explode. Less than that if you try to take
them off yourselves. Have a safe trip, gentleman."
Oswald enters the elevator.
Casey enters the elevator.
Rahn says, "Oh!.. and welcome to Monohaze!"
Rahn enters the elevator.
Kyn says, "Hell... not even 10 minutes here and we're enslaved to do a drug
run."
The elevator doors hiss close.
